An election’s coming, eh?

Unless you’re living under a rock, odds are pretty good that you’re aware there’s a federal election coming soon. Really soon. Tomorrow, to be precise. And while I’m sure this has been said about pretty much every election ever, this one really matters.

See right now Canada’s in a bit of a weird place. Our oldest ally and former best friend, the United States, is currently attacking us in an entirely unwarranted trade war. Not only that, but the “joke” of Canada becoming the 51st state is being thrown around in more and more serious ways. Both issues carry a common denominator: he-who-must-not-be-named. Trump, that is, not Voldemort.

For those reasons, this election isn’t so much about voting for the party we like. It’s about voting for the party leader that we feel can lead us through the next few years of threats to our economy and our sovereignty.

Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Party – Mark Carney

I believe that person is Mark Carney

Carney is a man of experience – he guided the Bank of Canada through the financial crisis of 2008 and the Bank of England through the mistake of Brexit. He’s been in finance in one form or another for pretty much ever. It’s also becoming increasing apparent that he is a leader who listens to the public. Just days after the Liberal Party leadership election (which he won in a landslide), Carney removed the consumer facing Carbon Tax – effectively wiping 20c/L off the price of gas overnight.

Where Carney shines with his experience, his opponent Pierre Poilievre (of the Conservatives) does the opposite. See, Poilievre has been a politician for 20 years – and that’s about it. He’s been the leader of his party since 2022 and has spent much of the time he’s been leader branding himself as a bit of an anti-Trudeau figure. In fact, so much so that he seems to have been entirely unable to pivot his strategy since Trudeau quit – blowing a staggering 20-point lead in the polls. The fact he’s copying Trump’s playbook and talking about tackling “woke ideology” probably isn’t helping either.

Where the Liberal campaign has seemingly focused on a positive message of “Canada Strong“, the Conservatives have seemingly spent most of the campaign talking down about Canada. Poilievre’s had so many negative three word slogans (“Axe the Tax”, “Stop the Crime”) that it’s actually become kind of a meme at this point. Instead of optimism and hope, their campaign is instead leading with a campaign slogan of “Canada First for a change“.

Let me ask you – would you rather have someone who is experienced and willing to listen lead us through the current multiple crises facing our nation? Or the career politician who has until now lead campaigned on – literally – not being Justin Trudeau?

In Conclusion

To be clear – I don’t love everything that the Liberal party have done with their 10 years in office. In fact, I’m sure there’s things they’ll go on to do that I also won’t like. However, this is the time to Vote for Canada – for country over party.

Not only does Carney have the experience to navigate through these rough waters – the Liberals under Carney have also promised to:

And much, much more. You can read their whole “Canada Strong” plan here.

So, all that to say, please vote tomorrow. Please Vote for Canada. Please consider voting for the Liberals under Mark Carney.
